Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist stated that the investigation clearly showed that it was not a matter of sabotage, but a combination of weather conditions and deficiencies in equipment and seamanship.
However, in Latvia, the authorities are not as certain. The police in Latvia are still investigating sabotage as a possible cause and believe it is too early to draw any conclusions, reports public service channel LSM.
"We are still investigating in that direction because we, so to speak, have our own investigation, and considering the geopolitical situation, the question is highly relevant," said police chief Armands Ruks to the channel on Monday.
According to LSM, international authorities are involved in the investigation. A meeting with Eurojust, the EU's agency for criminal justice cooperation, will be held in the coming days.
Mats Ljungqvist tells TT that he will participate, but he has no further comments.
On Sunday, January 26, damage to a data cable between Sweden and Latvia in the Baltic Sea was discovered. A preliminary investigation into gross sabotage was initiated, and the vessel Vezhen was seized off Karlskrona, where Swedish authorities conducted investigations.
