496 companies went bankrupt in August, compared to 513 the same month in 2023.

"No immediate explanation for the decrease is easy to see. Although bankruptcies tend to be at a relatively low level during the summer, the decline in August is still surprising", says Syna's CEO Karl Stjerna in a press release.

Over the past two years, the number of bankruptcies has otherwise increased constantly month by month, compared to a year ago.

Karl Stjerna emphasizes that it is difficult to draw any far-reaching conclusions based on just one month's figures. Still, the construction and installation industry, as well as companies in the restaurant sector and trade, are struggling with profitability.

"Households are still holding on to their money tightly. We also see that the number of redundancies in the business sector is increasing, as well as the unemployment rate continuing to rise", he says.
