We are convinced that we have prevented a serious violent crime, says Malmö police's press spokesperson Nils Norling.
The weapon and the explosive device were found in connection with the boys.
They are now suspected of conspiracy to commit public endangerment, serious weapons offenses and crimes against the law on flammable and explosive goods. None of them are of legal age and one is under 15 years old.
It was the police's camera operators who, via surveillance camera, noticed the two boys, who appeared to be handling a weapon at around 1 am at night.
According to Norling, it has not yet been possible to establish that the boys were sent on a mission by older criminals.
But we have seen a trend in recent years, not only in Malmö but throughout the country, where older serious criminals hire boys to commit serious violent crimes.
The boy under 15 was later released, but is still suspected.
