Eight boys were injured by a lightning strike at a football pitch on Lidingö on August 29. Six weeks later, one of them is still hospitalized, writes IFK Lidingö on its website.
The youths had been caught off guard by a heavy downpour and had taken shelter from the rain under some trees when the lightning struck one of the trees. The three boys who stood closest to the tree where the lightning struck were the most severely injured.
One of them was able to leave the hospital the next day, but the other two remained for treatment of serious injuries. One of them is, according to the club, still hospitalized "but has now finally been allowed to come home on leave", writes club manager Markus Karlsson in a statement.
He also thanks for "the enormous support" the club has received from members, Lidingö residents, and people and associations around the country.
