The horse is currently out of service. The Swedish riding star wants to work on the relationship and build up the horse's confidence in peace and quiet after a series of mishaps. Therefore, King Edward will not participate in the World Cup this season.

The calendar year may have ended less cheerfully, but 2024 overall sent a clear message: no pair collected as many ranking points as von Eckermann and King Edward.

The victory in the World Cup final in Riyadh, several second places in five-star GP jumping competitions, and successful performances in the team competition League of Nations laid the foundation for the position as world number one.

In total, the pair earned 1,780 points, clearly more than Olympic silver medalist, the Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten and Beauville, who stayed at 1,516.

National team colleague Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and Zuccero finished sixth on the list.

Henrik von Eckermann is also holding on to his position as world number one rider for the 30th consecutive month.

This weekend, he will ride in the World Cup in Basel.
