In April, the Swedish bishop and cardinal Anders Arborelius was pointed out as a possible pope candidate when he ended up high on the French Le Figaro's list of potential successors to Pope Francis.
In an interview with the newspaper Dagen, Arborelius says that he did not like the speculations and means that it is "lacking respect" towards the current pope to speculate about his successor.
But there were mixed feelings. You actually got a little scared: Can it really be that bad with the church that they can't find anyone else? But it was also a bit funny: How did they come up with that?, he says.
Anders Arborelius also says that the speculations should be taken with a grain of salt.
There are what you call Vaticanists, who have the task of making guesses and bringing forth all sorts of rumors, so you should probably dismiss that fairly quickly. It's loose speculations that you shouldn't pay any attention to.
