The company still claims that it has done nothing illegal or wrong. But it has agreed to a proposal for a settlement in the case, a class-action lawsuit, where users five years ago sued Apple. The lawsuit involved allegations that the company had eavesdropped on private conversations, via Siri, for around ten years, as users of iPhones, iPads, and other products of the company had conversations.

According to the lawsuit, conversations were recorded even when the user had not activated Siri and asked for help. Some content from conversations was allegedly forwarded to advertisers so that they could target their ads to people who might be more interested than others.

If the proposal for a settlement is approved by the court, it means that Americans who have owned and used an iPhone for some period from September 2014 to September last year can apply for up to 20 dollars in compensation from Apple.
