In 2023, the Swedish Transport Administration introduced a new planning system, which was heavily criticized from several quarters, including train operators. The system is still plagued by deficiencies, and the Transport Agency wants to see urgent measures taken, otherwise, a fine is threatened.
"To prevent passengers, train companies, and maintenance companies from being affected further, the deficiencies need to be addressed quickly," says Petra Särefjord, section chief at the Transport Agency, in a press release.
As early as a year ago, the Transport Agency demanded measures in seven different areas.
"By January 2025, the assessment is that all seven identified areas still have safety requirements that are not met. Each area is therefore subject to a fine of 5 million kronor each," writes the Transport Agency.
