From January 15 next year, it will be easier for people with ADHD and autism to obtain a driver's license. Then the requirement for a medical certificate for a driving license permit will be abolished. It is completely unjustified that it exists, says Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD).

The Transport Agency has been commissioned by the government to investigate the issue and has come to the conclusion that it is not justified to retain the medical requirements that exist today for people with mild or moderate ADHD and autism.

They assess that it does not affect driving ability, says Jakob Forssmed.

Almost everyone with the diagnoses, over 99 percent, passes the medical examination required today.

In line with the increase in the number of children and young people with diagnoses, the burden on healthcare to issue certificates has also increased.

We are now relieving the specialist psychiatric care in Sweden, which has more important tasks than issuing unjustified certificates, says Forssmed.

He also thinks it is positive that the companies that have emerged around the certificates are now losing their business opportunities.

When healthcare has not been able to issue these certificates, private companies have done so at a cost of 1,500 kronor. You have been able to buy and get such a certificate the same day, often without the doctor even having access to your medical record, says Forssmed.

The Transport Agency aims to abolish the requirement in January next year.
