The Government is allocating, in an agreement with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), nearly 1.6 billion kronor for the national strategy on mental health and suicide prevention.
The strategy was presented earlier in January and is based on a report submitted to the Government by the Public Health Agency, the National Board of Health and Welfare, and 24 other authorities in 2023.
"Based on the national strategy, we are now investing in areas with significant development needs. This includes, not least, psychiatric compulsory care and forensic psychiatry, where high workload and long care times have increasingly characterized the operations. Therefore, we are allocating 700 million kronor to improve the situation," says Minister for Health and Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed in a press release.
In total, the agreement with SALAR allocates 788 million kronor to the regions, 250 million kronor to the municipalities, 493 million kronor to five regions and municipalities jointly, and 29 million kronor to SALAR.
