About 1,200 people have been evacuated from an area north of Los Angeles in the USA, in connection with a comprehensive forest fire.
The fire is believed to have started on Saturday, and had spread to an area equivalent to 41 square kilometres by Sunday, according to local authorities.
Neither people nor homes are reported to have been damaged in the fire so far. However, a number of commercial buildings have been damaged.
The fire has mainly spread in the Gorman region of southern California, and is affecting, among other things, the Hungry Valley nature reserve, where 1,200 people – mainly campers and hikers – have now been evacuated.
Unpredictable winds and steep terrain have made the firefighting efforts challenging, and so far, only a small part of the fire is under control.
