Stockholmsjul’s opening ceremony brings music and a festive sing-along to Kungsträdgården, followed by the official switch-on of the Christmas lights. It marks the public start of the city’s Stockholmsjul display, with a programme built around music and joining in.
The organisers say more than 50 streets and places are decorated with different kinds of Christmas lighting. Visit Stockholm says the lights remain until the end of January. Stockholmsjul has transformed central Stockholm each winter since 2011. For visitors, the ceremony offers a way to take part in a local seasonal event while seeing the start of a lighting display that extends beyond the venue into streets and public spaces across the city.

Stockholm Santa Run 2026

For 12 years, the association Together we make a change has organized the charity race Stockholm Santa Run. The race, which is organized entirely on a non-profit basis, involves all participants dressing up in Santa costumes and running/walking/jogging a 3-6 km distance in Stockholm's inner city.
