17-4-8 are the figures that cannot be talked away. The Olympic Games ended in a single major disappointment for show jumper Peder Fredricson. He misses the individual final. It's really sad, of course, he says.
SportsWorld number one Henrik von Eckermann and his King Edward are jumping for the individual Olympic Games gold in Versailles. The pair cleared the qualifying round without faults. For Peder Fredricson and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, the qualifying round ended in fiasco – both miss the Olympic Games final.
SportsPeder Fredricson, Henrik von Eckermann, and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson. They are competing in the individual show jumping, which begins with Monday's qualifying round in Versailles. Their horses have looked very good throughout the team competition and are in top form, says the team captain Henrik Ankarcrona.
SportsThe Swedish riders had to stand and watch as Scott Brash rode home the Olympic Games gold to Great Britain. Deeply disappointed in themselves. It feels sour. I probably shouldn't use the words for what I'm feeling, says Henrik von Eckermann.
SportsKing Edward lost a shoe before the final obstacle. He won't get it back when the Swedish show jumpers try to defend their Olympic Games gold in the team final. I think he gave the answer that he doesn't want any shoes, says Henrik von Eckermann.
SportsWhat happened, Peder Fredricson doesn't know, but he was on his way to his worst nightmare. Catch Me Not stopped short in front of the wall with graffiti-painted faces. The street art was about to put a spoke in the wheel for a Swedish final spot and the fight for Olympic Games medals. You feel a bit shaken. Now it's just a matter of trying to put this behind him, says Fredricson.
SportsThe gold medalist from Tokyo had to step aside. Instead, Malin Baryard Johnsson's task is to help and support three old, good friends in every way. It's an extremely important role, but I don't think it's that difficult. Not in this company, at least, she says.
SportsRather a new success with the team, but it's not enough. Peder Fredricson has set his sights on more – and doesn't want it to be like in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. He's jumping for the individual Olympic Games gold he's missing. Absolutely. I think everyone on the team does here, he says.
