Stockholm Taxi Drivers Suspected of Overcharging and Locking Passengers in Cars

Two taxi drivers in the Stockholm area are suspected of crimes, including overcharging passengers and locking them in their taxis, Aftonbladet reports.

Between August 2024 and September 2026, the drivers are said to have set out from Arlanda Airport and targeted travelers by charging them excessively high fares. In some cases, fares were as high as 15,000 kronor, according to the newspaper.

When customers questioned the price, the drivers are said to have behaved threateningly. According to sources cited by Aftonbladet, they are also said to have locked the car doors and refused to let passengers who had not paid get out.

One of them is now in custody on suspicion of unlawful detention and five counts of fraud. The other is at large but remains a suspect. The prosecutor does not rule out the possibility of more suspects and victims.
