Handball star Jim Gottfridsson is returning home to his parent club IFK Ystad. But playing in the second division does not mean giving up on Sweden. "I am a player who has always said yes, always been available," says the national team veteran.
SportsSweden faces Norway, Greece and Qatar in the group stage of the Men's Handball World Championship in Germany next year.
SportsJim Gottfridsson is now breaking his silence after being fired from Pick Szeged. The handball star does not want to comment on the legal process - but states: "I regret nothing. I also know that I did nothing."
SportsHe was fired from Pick Szeged. But on the national team, Jim Gottfridsson is still an important player. "I can't comment on the club or the process," says national team captain Michael Apelgren - also the club coach in Hungary.
SportsA failed European Handball Championship - according to Sweden's players and leaders. But not according to the Swedish Handball Association. From 14th to sixth place is a step in the right direction, so we can't say it's a failure, says Kalle Andersson, acting national team manager.
SportsJim Gottfridsson, 33, would have liked more playing time at the European Handball Championship and is not finished with the national team. "I will show today that I have a little more to give at this level," says the midfielder.
SportsTwo championships, two failures. Will Michael Apelgren lead the national handball team at the World Cup in Germany next year? "I believe I have a contract until 2028," says the national team captain.
SportsThe national handball team's fiasco is complete. Sweden received no help from Slovenia or Hungary - and missed the European Championship semi-final. "I am, of course, disappointed," says national team captain Michael Apelgren to Viaplay.
SportsThe national handball team's European Championship hopes could be over as early as the return match against Switzerland tonight. Unless Slovenia or Hungary lend a helping hand earlier in the day. "We need some damn luck," says Felix Claar.
SportsSweden plays matches every other day. The Slovenians enter the intermediate round of the European Handball Championship with an extra day of rest. They are probably fitter than we are, says Sweden's national team captain Michael Apelgren.
SportsHe scored seven goals in his championship debut in front of 11,800 spectators at home in Malmö. The 19-year-old super talent Nikola Roganovic is being praised after his success in the European Championship opener. "We have a 'golden boy' in Swedish handball," says national team captain Michael Apelgren.
SportsJim Gottfridsson has played in twelve straight championships and has helped win four medals. But his most vivid memory is a disastrous failure. "You really want revenge. You don't want to experience the feeling from last year again," the veteran says ahead of the European Handball Championships.
SportsSweden won the first of two home games ahead of the European Handball Championship, beating Brazil. A strong second-half performance in blue and yellow produced a 34–27 victory. Felix Claar celebrated his birthday by scoring seven goals.
SportsAndreas Palicka, Fabian Norsten or Mikael "Äpplet" Appelgren? The goalkeeper question is giving the national captain a headache ahead of the European Handball Championship. "It's a bit tricky. I won't say anything else," says Michael Apelgren.
SportsHe is the youngest in the squad and a championship debutant. Nikola Roganovic is therefore expecting a smaller role in the European Championship team – but is aiming for something else. I am not satisfied with being selected, I want to do more, says the 19-year-old.
SportsA hollow defense in the first meeting – a different Sweden in the return. First goalkeeper Fabian Norsten showed class when the handball masters took revenge on Spain. A relief, he says after the 34–31 victory in Eskilstuna.
SportsThe Swedish handball masters have worked on their defense after the World Cup fiasco. It wasn't noticeable against Spain. We didn't really get it going today, says national team captain Michael Apelgren after the 30–34 loss in Linköping.
SportsNikola Roganovic, 19, continues to impress in the handball league. A player who the men's national team's head coach Michael Apelgren believes that Sweden will get great benefit from. He will in the long run become a key player for the national team, says Apelgren.
SportsAndreas Palicka will miss the handball national team matches against Spain due to an elbow injury. Instead, new goalkeepers are given the chance. It's fun that new ones get the chance, says national team captain Michael Apelgren.
