Jim Gottfridsson published a statement on his Instagram account a month ago in which he expressed his disappointment that the Hungarian club Pick Szeged dismissed him.

"This happened without any justification or prior dialogue, in gross violation of both the written and unwritten rules of the sport I love."

Just over a month later, he doesn't want to say anything more about what happened.

"I will not go into any details," he tells TT in Kristianstad.

This is because a legal process is ongoing. If that had not been the case…

"So I would have liked to be able to tell you a lot."

"No regrets"

If Gottfridsson could have rewound time in Hungary, he wouldn't have wanted to do anything differently.

"I regret nothing. And I also know that I didn't do anything."

Gottfridsson barely completed a season in Hungarian club handball.

"I had envisioned myself in Hungary for three years and then my active professional career would be over. Now I'll see what happens."

Gottfridsson, despite being clubless, has been selected for the Swedish national team for two international matches against Croatia this week.

"It shows that a lot has been done for this national team, over a long period of time."

Aiming for the 2028 Olympics

The Gottfridsson family remains in Hungary while waiting for a new club address to become a reality. The 33-year-old's goal is to play at the 2028 Olympics.

Are you open to a move to the Swedish handball league?

"If you ask me today, I'm keen on going abroad, but if you ask me tomorrow, it might be different."

Lives near the national team captain

One factor is that the Hungarian club, against which Gottfridsson has an ongoing legal process, is coached by Sweden's national team captain Michael Apelgren.

"We have met occasionally; we don't live more than about 200 meters apart," says Jim Gottfridsson.

According to him, Apelgren can handle this balancing act.

"So far he's done pretty well."

The national team captain does not want to comment on the process between his employer Pick Szeged and Jim Gottfridsson.

Sweden meets Croatia in Kristianstad on Wednesday evening and play them away three days later.
