Gottfridsson missed three games in a row and finally chose to speak out.

The 33-year-old says he was fired - without any warning.

“Gross violation”

"This happened without any justification or prior discussion, in a gross violation of both the written and unwritten rules of the sport I love," the Swede wrote on Instagram.

"My disappointment cannot be put into words. I could never have imagined that a club with such a great reputation would disregard both sporting ethical principles and legal rules - for reasons unknown to me."

Coach Michael Apelgren - who is also responsible for the men's national team - says that the situation is special and has therefore chosen not to comment on what is happening between Gottfridsson and Pick Szeged.

Jim and the club are in the middle of a process, which everyone understands, and if you are in this type of process, it should not be resolved in the media, so to speak, says Apelgren.

“Special situation”

The national team captain believes that the relationship with Gottfridsson is good.

It's clear that it's a special situation, but I feel like we have a very good relationship... He wants to continue being on the national team and I'm a coach there; that says something.

Sweden, which has already qualified for the World Cup, will face Croatia in two international matches, in Kristianstad on May 13 and Varazdin on May 16. European Championship qualifying begins in November, and in January next year Sweden will play the World Cup in Germany.
