In a shooting in the middle of one of Gävle's central pedestrian streets, three people were injured during the night, one of them so seriously that he later died.
The man was shot with multiple bullets, according to the police, at a distance of just a few meters.
The deceased man is in his 25s. He was hit by multiple shots at close range.
It was not many meters away, says police spokesperson Mathias Rutegård.
The shots were fired in an area where many people were moving around. Over ten people are said to have been in the vicinity.
There were many people who were on the spot.
Not life-threatening
Two more people, both men, were injured in the shooting, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening. One man was lightly injured in the arm and one man in the leg.
A preliminary investigation into murder has been initiated. The three individuals are known to the police from before, but whether there are links to gang crime, the police do not want to comment on.
At present, we do not know in what context this happened and why, says Rutegård.
No one has been arrested yet. According to witnesses, one or more suspected perpetrators fled the scene after the shots were fired, says Rutegård to Expressen.
It is one or more perpetrators we are looking for, says Rutegård.
A intensive investigation is currently underway, where they are, among other things, reviewing cameras. The police are urging everyone who saw or heard anything to contact the police.
Witness interviews are taking place now and will continue. We notice that many are getting in touch with us and want to help.
"He's dead!"
Aftonbladet has spoken to a resident in the area who was sleeping with an open window. The woman woke up to the sound of screams from the street.
They shouted and ran, it sounded like a big gang. Then I heard three sharp shots and after that, there was a lot of screaming, the woman tells the newspaper.
After the shots, there were even more screams and running.
Then I heard someone shout just: 'He's dead!' It was so unpleasant.
The police announced at 12 o'clock that the technical investigation at the crime scene is complete and the cordon has been lifted.
