Despite the ban, a Scanian weight loss clinic is marketing prescription drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy on the internet. Now, the Medical Products Agency is threatening a fine of 750,000 kronor for each instance the clinic violates the ban, reports SVT News Skåne.

The two preparations were originally developed as diabetes medications. The Medical Products Agency has urged doctors not to prescribe diabetes medication for weight loss, as it has led to a shortage of medication for chronically ill patients.

The clinic believes that the Medical Products Agency's decision on fines is incorrect. The clinic's chief physician tells SVT that the ban on marketing prescription drugs is directed at the pharmaceutical industry, not healthcare providers. The decision will be appealed.
