Ukraine accuses the Russian military of having executed 16 prisoners of war near the raging battles in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine's equivalent of the Chancellor of Justice announces via Telegram that image material has emerged that will be subject to another war crimes investigation against the Russian invasion forces.

These images, which TT has not taken part of, are said to show how 16 captured Ukrainian soldiers are led out of a trench at the front outside the disputed Pokrovsk, whereupon they are lined up and shot dead by Russian soldiers.

"The wounded who showed signs of life were executed at close range with automatic fire", writes the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office, which describes it as the most extensive crime of its kind so far during the war.

A few weeks ago, the same authority announced that more than 50 investigations are ongoing into cases where prisoners of war are suspected to have been executed by Russia.
