The incoming US President Donald Trump has spoken on the phone with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. They are said to be in agreement on working towards a return to peace in Europe, but what this means is unclear.
The two exchanged views on the German-American relationship and the current geopolitical challenges, says Scholz's spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit.
They also agreed to work together to return to peace in Europe.
Hebestreit did not mention any details about how this work for peace would be carried out or what the implications would be.
On Thursday, Trump had a phone call with Vladimir Putin. According to sources close to the Washington Post, the two discussed "peace in Europe" and a "quick solution to the war in Ukraine". Trump is also said to have urged the Russian President not to escalate the war in Ukraine.
