Sailor killed by shark south of the Canary Islands

A German woman has died after being attacked by a shark in the Atlantic, 270 nautical miles southwest of the Canary Islands.

The woman, in her 30s, was on a sailing trip from Gran Canaria when the shark bit her in one leg.

According to the Spanish coastguard, she died of a heart attack in a rescue helicopter on the way to land.

The shark attack is described by Canarias7 as very rare, according to the newspaper, it has never been previously registered as a fatal shark attack in modern times.
