The social media platform Tiktok is turning to the federal appeals court in the USA with an appeal to postpone a new legislation that could require the company to be banned in the country. The same federal court rejected last week a request from Tiktok to repeal the law regarding a potential ban.
Tiktok has appealed the verdict to the USA's highest court and now wants the new law to be postponed until the Supreme Court has taken up the case.
The current law, which was adopted in April, stipulates that Tiktok must be sold to an American owner by January 19 next year at the latest. If the platform continues under Chinese ownership, it will be banned.
