Three skiers have died in an avalanche in the Italian Alps in the Piemonte region, according to rescue personnel.
According to the Italian news agency Ansa, the deceased are three Italian men who lived in the region.
Two other skiers from the same group survived the avalanche and have been transported to hospital by helicopter. The skiers who died were dragged down the slope for several hundred meters.
The accident occurred around lunchtime on Sunday on the eastern side of the mountain peak Punta Valgrande, which is located on the border between Italy and Switzerland.
A warning for "significant avalanche danger" has been issued in the area.
