The orange warning applies to the area around Skellefteå and Robertsfors in Västerbotten's coastal region and has been issued from Thursday night, when the snowfall is expected to increase.
The rescue service is now being reinforced with extra snowplows. They will be able to assist with acute cases, such as ambulance transports, reports Norran.
We have our own snowplow, but now three snowplows from the Transport Administration are also being sent. They will arrive this evening, says Ola Lindström at the rescue service in Skellefteå to the newspaper.
We want to be prepared and the snowplows are good to have in a worst-case scenario.
Skellefteå municipality has cancelled all school transportation within the elementary school on Friday. Elementary schools will remain open for students who can get to school. However, teaching at upper secondary schools will take place remotely, reports Norran.
Thousands without power
Thousands of households on the Västerbotten coast have been affected by power outages on Thursday. At around 20:30, approximately 6,000 customers of Skelleftekraft and Umeå Energi were affected.
At around 21:00, Umeå Energi's work to repair the power outages was interrupted, as it was too dark for personnel to work safely, reports Västerbottens-Kuriren.
The worst affected areas are Ivarsboda, Ostnäs, and Holmön.
We will have around 1,500 customers without power tonight, and it's customers in these areas. There has been a larger damage in Ivarsboda. We're talking about 100 trees that have fallen over different power lines, we won't be able to fix it tonight. They will continue to be without power tonight, says Olov Hjärtström Baudin, press chief at Umeå Energi to the newspaper.
Trains and buses cancelled
There are difficult road conditions on several roads in the affected area. Local media report traffic accidents and fallen trees. Public transportation is also affected, with delays and cancelled departures.
Among other things, the train routes Sundsvall-Uppsala and Gävle-Ockelbo are affected by the heavy snowfall in combination with strong winds. The disruptions are expected to continue on Friday.
