The Police Authority's phased-out service weapon Sig Sauer P225 is to be destroyed, reports Police Magazine. Donating or selling them are alternatives that have been deemed complicated by the working group that decided on the decommissioned weapons.
If we were to sell them, we wouldn't be able to make a profit either. Moreover, we wouldn't have been allowed to sell the weapons within Sweden, says Jens Lundin, operational developer firearms at Noa, to the magazine.
The pistols are to be destroyed by the National Forensic Centre (NFC).
Various models of Sig Sauer have been the police's service weapon since the 80s, but when it became difficult to find spare parts, the service weapon was replaced by Glock 45. The distribution of the new pistols began last spring and is expected to be completed in 2027.
Sig Sauer P225 has accounted for nearly half of the force's service weapons, while four other models have accounted for the rest – what will happen to them has not yet been decided.
