Now, the Nordic region's second-highest tower, 200 meters high, is being inaugurated by the power cable company NKT in Karlskrona. Only the Karlatornet in Gothenburg is higher (246 meters).
The tower has been built to meet the growing global demand for high-voltage cables, writes NKT in a press release. Here, power cables with a voltage of up to 640 kilovolts will be manufactured.
The reason the tower was built so high is that the cables must be able to hang vertically when the cable insulation is to be cooled.
"This is the third tower at our facility, and the expansion is a result of the record-high orders we have received to strengthen and expand the global power grids," says the company's vice CEO Darren Fennell in the press release.
NKT plans to recruit approximately 500 new employees in Karlskrona by 2027.
