Late in the evening of January 29, a man was shot to death in an apartment in Södertälje. The day after, it became clear that the victim was the Koran burner Salwan Momika.
The same day, January 30, the Stockholm District Court was to deliver a verdict in the case where Momika, along with another man, was charged with incitement to racial hatred in connection with the burning of Korans in the summer of 2023.
Just hours after the fatal shooting, five men suspected of involvement in the murder were arrested and detained. However, all five were released the following day.
Prosecutor Rasmus Öman says that the suspicions against the five still remain.
We are waiting for some final measures to be taken before I can decide whether the suspicions can be dropped.
There is no new person who has been suspected or detained.
Öman says that an intensive investigative work is ongoing.
The police are working on it and we are still gathering information. I feel that we have the sequence of events pretty clear to us, but I cannot go into more detail about what it is, says Rasmus Öman.
