In the accident outside Kristianstad, two children and a woman died. The children were not found until the car was about to be towed away after the rescue services had left the scene.

Now, Kristianstad Municipality will investigate the accident since the rescue services are organized under the municipality, reports TV4 News.

How did it happen? How could we have missed the children? We must examine this calmly and thoroughly, and it will take time, says Malin Bergkvist, communications strategist at the municipality, to TV4.

The Swedish Transport Administration will also investigate the fatal accident.

All fatal accidents are investigated, where we examine all aspects to get a comprehensive picture, says Katarina Wolffram, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration, to Kristianstadsbladet.

The purpose is not to look for who did something wrong, but to see if there is anything we can do to prevent similar incidents from happening again, she continues.

Katarina Wolffram says that parts of the investigation are often conducted together with the police, but the Swedish Transport Administration also conducts its own analyses.
