The trial of the suspected honor killing of a 22-year-old woman in Lessebo last spring has been concluded in Kalmar District Court, reports P4 Kronoberg. While awaiting the verdict, the mother, who is charged with the murder along with the deceased woman's brother and father, is being released from custody.
Prosecutor Anna-Karin von Schoultz has requested a life sentence for the father, but determinate sentences for the remaining family members. She wants the brother to receive 18 years in prison and the mother between 12 and 15 years in prison, according to SVT Småland. However, the mother's release from custody now indicates that she will not be convicted of murder.
Schoultz has previously described the suspected murder as an honor killing.
The verdict will be announced on April 2.
