Throughout 2024, 41,434 puppies and imports were registered with the Swedish Kennel Club. This is a decrease of 7.5 percent compared to the previous year. The Swedish Board of Agriculture's mandatory register shows a decline of 8.2 percent.

"We are, however, cautiously optimistic about the future, given that the decline leveled out during the autumn and the registration figure for December was higher compared to the same month in 2023," says Kees de Jong, CEO of the kennel club in a press release.

The list of the five most popular breeds in the country remained unchanged compared to 2023. The Labrador Retriever is still at the top. Next come the Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Jamthund, and Cocker Spaniel.

Breeds that climbed the list included, among others, the Bichon Havanais and the Danish-Swedish Farmdog.
