Borås and Sjuhärad were the first to introduce the new journal system Millennium in the Västra Götaland region.
Early on Tuesday, the transition took place, and a few hours later, VGR called a press conference. The idea was to provide a status update to the media – it turned out to be something entirely different.
What was communicated was that the transition had gone smoothly on the whole. Neurologist Wojciech Skup had a different picture.
I couldn't hear what they said. They lied outright. Then I couldn't stay silent, he says to TT.
"Completely unexpected"
Actually, Skup, who works as a senior physician in neurology at Södra Älvsborgs hospital (Säs), shouldn't have been at the press conference, where union representatives and employees were not invited.
Nor had he planned to interrupt.
It was completely unexpected and random. I was in the right place, at the right time, says the senior physician.
He interrupted the press conference with a lengthy account of everything that had gone wrong and called Millennium a "catastrophe" before storming out of the room.
Afterwards, his actions have been noticed in both local and national media. Additionally, "Je suis Wojciech" posters have been seen when healthcare personnel at Säs gathered outside the hospital's main entrance to protest.
I've received a lot of attention from everyone. I've also received flowers from various places, so I want to thank everyone, he says.
Apologetic
On Friday, Västra Götaland region announced that it would pause the introduction of Millennium. VGR has also apologized for the image they presented at the press conference.
Joakim Höstner, hospital director at Säs, claims that there was a delay in the information flow on Tuesday.
The first reports I received were fairly okay. But with the rounds, problems began to arise, and the staff noticed it immediately. For me, it took a little longer, he says.
