Swedes are being evacuated from their hotels on the fire-ravaged island of Kos in Greece.

Tour operators Tui, Apollo, and Ving are relocating tourists from the area where the fire is burning.

This concerns individuals who are in the Kardamena area.

Tui is evacuating around 50 Swedes from three hotels in the area on Monday evening.

They will be taken to a safe location nearby. Step two is to find hotels and conference facilities on the island where we can relocate the guests, says Adam Györki, communications manager at Tui, to TT.

At present, none of their travelers need to be evacuated further.

We have prepared with transportation and tried to find solutions during the day. Then we received this message late in the evening and are acting as quickly as possible.

"Complete chaos"

Traveler Caroline Dolk from Stockholm tells Expressen that she has seen from her hotel room how planes are water-bombing the fires.

We were told to only bring our passports, phones, and chargers. Some people here at the hotel have packed everything, she says to the newspaper.

Sam Nelleros tells SVT News that it is difficult to describe the situation on the island.

The guests are worried, you can also see that the hotel staff are worried. I'm trying to stay calm, he says.

Several travelers describe the situation as chaotic.

It has been complete chaos, says Jörgen Frisfors to Aftonbladet.

Unclear how close

It is unclear how close the fire is to the tourist buildings, but travelers have smelled smoke.

They are making the assessment that they need to work in the area during the night and then they don't want to have tourists at the hotels, says Adam Györki.

Apollo and Ving will also evacuate Swedish tourists in the area to other hotels.

Apollo has around 80 travelers on Kos, but initially only needs to evacuate guests from four hotels in the area. Ving has 23 travelers in the area and is evacuating five people from two hotels, according to information officer Charlotte Hallencreutz.

We are also offering relocation for guests who want it, to other hotels further away, if they are worried, she says to TT.
