The total order value amounts to approximately 60 billion kronor. The other countries are Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Spain.

The contract also includes updated components, test equipment, and spare parts to support future maintenance in Europe.

According to a press release from the government, the joint procurement reduces the cost per robot.

Furthermore, the defense industrial base is being built up in Europe. This is because a new production line for Patriot robots is being built in Germany. Previously, there have only been production facilities for the system in the USA.

"The acquisition means that we strengthen the capability and endurance within the Swedish air defense and simultaneously contribute to the joint air defense capability within NATO and in Europe", says Jonas Lotsne, head of the army materiel department at the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), in a press release.

Eight European nations are now using Patriot for defense against cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and aircraft of various types.
