Sick Leave for Childcare Decreased in 2024

Swedish parents took fewer sick days to care for their children to a lesser extent last year compared to 2023. According to figures from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, which Sveriges Radio's Ekot has accessed, the number of sick days to care for children decreased from 8 million days in 2023 to 7.3 million last year.

At the same time, a total of 8.3 billion kronor was paid out in compensation for caring for a sick child. This is a decrease of 3 percent compared to the previous year.
