Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic spoke on Sunday by phone with Russia's President Vladimir Putin. The conversation was the first between the two leaders in two and a half years.
I thanked President Putin especially for his assurance that Russia will provide Serbia with sufficient amounts of gas during the winter, says Vucic in a video message published on social media.
Serbia's increasingly authoritarian President has, despite Serbia's stated desire to join the EU, refused to impose the sanctions that other Western countries have placed on Russia following the invasion of Ukraine. In Sunday's video message, Vucic adds that they will not change their stance on that issue.
The President's nationalist and right-wing populist party SNS has a majority in parliament after a disputed election in December last year.
