Russia and China veto watered-down UN Security Council resolution on Strait of Hormuz

According to the AP news agency, the resolution probably would not have affected the war or the negotiations even if it had been passed, as, among other things, formulations allowing military action to open the strait were removed.

The resolution that was ultimately tabled “strongly” urged countries that want to allow ships through the strait to “coordinate their efforts of a defensive nature.” The resolution also demanded that Iran cease attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
