The man accused of carrying out the knife attack on author Salman Rushdie is being prosecuted for suspected terrorist crimes, reports AP. According to the indictment, the man is suspected of having supported the Iran-backed Shia militia Hezbollah.
It was during an appearance in the state of New York in August 2022 that Rushdie was attacked by a man from the audience and received over a dozen knife wounds, which led to him becoming blind in one eye.
The man has already been prosecuted for suspected attempted murder and assault against the author. The trial process was scheduled to begin in January this year but was put on ice. According to AP, the two indictments will be handled separately.
