In Sweden, work permit holders are subject to special provisions in case their employment ends. He is bound to a specific employer and role for the first 24 months of the permit. In the case of a person whose job is terminated because of whatever reason, there is still provision to remain in the country for not more than three months and look for other jobs.
According to Skatteverket, a person is only allowed to remain without actively searching for a job for a new employer within the limit to 3 months. After the external reporting period of 24 months, returnees may seek a change of employer provided that they stay within the same profession/industry without the need of reapplication for a new permit.
Grace period
Failure to get a job or even a series of unsuccessful job search efforts may result in the expiration of the period by virtue of which the three-month period may be grounded - the grace period during which one is allowed to stay in Sweden and look for a job. And it is more than desirable, for the employees, that all issues are properly resolved in accordance with the rules, since in other cases there may be restrictions in the future to extend residence permits or working permits.
This is shown by experience in Sweden where policies that bring together immigration and labor market needs are pursued where workers enjoy some degree of freedom yet regulation is not lost (Migrationsverket).
