Pick n’ Mix Easter Eggs
Instead of Chocolate eggs for Easter, we have påskägg - colorful paper mache easter eggs that we fill with pick n’ mix candy. These are given to children, or, placed in the garden or home for a traditional easter egg hunt.
Easter Witches
Easter witches, or påskkärringar in Swedish, is a must for a classic Swedish Easter. Children dress up as witches and go asking for candy, a little bit like the Halloween tradition trick or treat.
Påskris
Påskris translates to easter twigs, or easter branches in English, and it refers to a Swedish tradition where people decorate twigs with feathers and eggs.
This is a fun decoration that is simple to make:
Either take some thin branches and put them in a vase, or simply find a branchy shrub in your garden to decorate. Decorate by hanging colorful feathers (can be found in all supermarkets), ribbons and painted blown out eggs (or store bought version) in the branches.
Swedish Easter Food
During Easter a lot of traditional foods are eaten, such as Janssons frestelse, pickled herring, eggs, and lamb roast. Just like Christmas, we drink a special type of soda, named Christmas soda for Christmas, and then re-branded as Easter soda for Easter. It is a Swedish classic that is only consumed during Christmas and Easter.
Swedish Easter is a delightful blend of traditions that bring families and communities together to celebrate the season. From the playful påskägg filled with candy to the charming Easter witches, these uniquely Swedish customs create an atmosphere of joy and festivity.
