A record number of people filed digitally in 2024, and it's unlikely to decrease in 2025. Filing digitally is both safer and faster, which is why we see an increase every year. The trend is that more and more people file earlier, which also means they can get their tax refund earlier.
How do you know if you need to file a tax declaration?
If you've received a tax return form, you need to file a tax declaration. If you have a digital mailbox, you'll receive the declaration there; otherwise, it will be sent to your registered address.
Important dates to keep track of for the 2025 tax declaration

April 11th: Tax Refund and Final Tax Decision For those who filed their taxes by April 2nd and didn't make any changes or additions, such as attaching a supplement.

April 15th: Paper Tax Return Form 1 If you don't have a digital mailbox, Kivra, you'll receive a paper tax return form 1.

May 2nd: Tax Return Form 1 The last day to submit your tax return for the 2024 income year. Attachments, such as if you've sold a property or securities, must be submitted with your tax return.

May 5th: Payment of Less than 30,000 SEK If you have remaining tax to pay, up to 30,000 SEK, make sure to pay it by May 5th to avoid interest charges.

June 2nd: Tax Return with Extension. The last day to file your tax return if you've been granted an extension.

June 5th: Tax Refund Tax refunds will be paid out between June 3rd and 5th to those who filed their taxes by May 2nd. Your bank account must be registered to receive automatic payment.

June 6th: Final Tax Decision For those who filed their taxes by May 2nd, you'll receive a final tax decision. If you receive your final tax decision in early June, you'll need to pay any remaining tax by September 12th, 2025.

July 14th: Payment of Remaining Tax If you received your final tax decision in early April and have remaining tax to pay, this is the last day to make the payment.

August 8th: Tax Refund Tax refunds for those who didn't receive their refund in April or June.
