A man who was found seriously shot in an apartment in Södertälje during the night has died of his injuries. According to information provided to Länstidningen, the man was a key figure in one of the city's criminal gangs.

Police and ambulance were alerted at 4 am on Tuesday morning to an apartment in the Blombacka area. There, a seriously injured man was found.

Lifesaving measures were initiated by medical personnel on site, but by 7 am, the police announced that the man had died of his injuries.

I saw two masked men, went down here and they tried to get in through the door but they didn't succeed, says the witness to the radio.

The police have initiated an investigation into murder.

The man, who was in his 20s, was according to Länstidningen Södertälje a key figure in one of the criminal gangs in Södertälje. He was visiting a relative when he was shot.

According to the newspaper, a burned-out moped was found in a wooded area in Hovsjö, Södertälje.

The police have cordoned off the area around the moped and will investigate it.
