One arrested after fatal shooting in Hallstahammar

A 25-year-old man was shot to death in central Hallstahammar on Thursday evening. A person has now been arrested and detained, suspected of aiding and abetting murder, according to VLT.

Several calls about the shooting came in to the police, the first at around 19:30. A man was found dead at the scene.

According to VLT, one person has been arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting murder, and was detained during the night. The arrest took place in Hallstahammar and the person was detained at 02:00. According to the newspaper, the suspect is in their 20s.

It's really a critical phase of the investigation and we're working on securing all evidence, says prosecutor Anna Elmlöf to VLT.

A witness tells VLT that they were on their way to their car with their family when they first heard a shot, and then several more after that.

A large police operation was underway at the scene on Thursday evening. A helicopter and dog patrol were involved in the work and public transportation was shut down for a period.
