The police and embassies will become better at informing the Migration Agency about cases where refugees and others with protected status in Sweden travel to their home countries. Such information can lead to the revocation of residence permits.

The government decided on Thursday to assign the authorities the task of improving information transfer by creating new routines. The assignment is to be completed by July 1, 2025.

If one has asylum due to fleeing a country, it is strange if one travels back to that country. Then one could draw the conclusion that one no longer has protection grounds, or that one did not provide correct information from the start, says Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M).

He notes, however, that exceptional reasons are required to revoke a residence permit after four years have passed since protected status was granted.
