Queen Silvia has been afflicted with "a severe respiratory infection" and will not participate in the state visit to Singapore as planned.
It's a severe cold, says Johan Tegel, assistant information manager at the Royal Palace.
"The Queen looked forward with pleasure to visiting Singapore and regrets that she is unable to accompany on the trip", writes the Royal Palace.
The royal couple was to travel to the island nation together from 19 to 21 November. Now it is only King Carl Gustaf who will travel there.
The purpose of the state visit is to develop and strengthen relations with the country. About 40 Swedish companies, authorities, and educational institutions are part of the business delegation set up by Business Sweden on behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The government is represented by Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party) and Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson (Christian Democrats).
It is the first state visit between Sweden and Singapore, but the king has made official visits to the island nation previously.
