Russia's President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that allows people who enlist to fight in Ukraine to write off unpaid debts worth approximately one million kronor, announces the Russian government.
The new legislative proposal comes at the same time as Russia is trying to find new ways to recruit fighters in the large-scale war that has been going on for almost three years.
Those who sign a one-year contract to fight in Ukraine after December 1 will, according to the new legislation, be exempt from their debts. This also applies to the person the fighter is married to.
The parliament approved the law earlier in November.
Russia has extremely high interest rates for loans and many Russians have almost no savings.
