Russia's President Vladimir Putin will not attend the G20 meeting in Brazil in November. This is because his arrival would "destroy" the conference.
We would essentially destroy the G20's work, for what? We will find someone (else) in Russia who can represent our country's interests in Brazil in a dignified manner, he says at a press conference on Friday.
The reason is that Brazil is formally obligated to arrest the president, who is subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The ICC's warrant for Putin's arrest was issued in March 2023 and was motivated by the forced transfer of children from Russian-occupied areas in Ukraine during the war.
