I will read the verdict calmly and then make my assessment at a later time, says prosecutor Pernilla Nilsson.
She had requested four years of closed youth care for the 15-year-old, but instead it became two years and two months.
The verdict is based on precedent, but it is starting to unravel, and therefore it would have been possible to sentence the 15-year-old more harshly, believes the prosecutor, who points to many aggravating circumstances.
I do not agree with the district court on this cautious approach, she says.
On the other hand, the prosecutor is satisfied that both the 15-year-old and the 13-year-old, who is not criminally liable, are deemed guilty of murder, as well as the district court's assessment that the sentence would have been life imprisonment if it had been adults who committed the murder.
The defense attorney Maria Stål Lindgren – who has been in contact with the 15-year-old girl after the verdict was announced – says she has no comments to give.
This is something that needs to sink in for her. She is only 15 years old, so it is difficult to understand everything that is happening, says Maria Stål Lindgren to TT.
She cannot currently say whether the verdict will be appealed. The same answer comes from the 13-year-old's legal representative, Maria Grosskopf.
"The client was prepared for this outcome, but of course she is disappointed that the court did not listen more to her," she also writes in an email.
