The police reinforcement from other parts of the country to Stockholm is to be phased out by autumn and completely discontinued by the end of next year, writes Polistidningen.
According to the decision, made by the National Police Commissioner, the Stockholm police need to review the possibilities of allocating their resources in favour of operational activities while awaiting the recruitment of more police officers in the capital.
The reinforcement has been prompted by the extensive gang violence that has been ongoing in Stockholm in recent years.
We know it's extremely tough for police officers who have been relocated. If you live in Kalmar or Östersund and have been to Stockholm several times, you start to get tired of it. But it's just as tough for us to keep taking in new colleagues, says Kjell Ahlin, chairman of the Stockholm region, to Polistidningen.
To increase police recruitment in Stockholm, the authorities need to work further on the housing issue, employment conditions, and salaries, believes Ahlin.
