The 32-year-old man is being prosecuted for attempted murder and aggravated assault after subjecting a woman to strangulation in a forest glade in southern Stockholm in May this year, according to Västerbottens-Kuriren.
The man had been conditionally released from a long prison sentence for a murder of a woman at a railway station in Umeå in 2013. The woman had no connection to the perpetrator, who suddenly shot her in the back on the platform – an event that drew widespread attention.
The 32-year-old was supposed to be supervised until 2027 after his conditional release, but it was terminated prematurely last year since the Prison and Probation Service assessed that the risk of reoffending was low.
According to a minor forensic psychiatric examination conducted while the man was in custody, he is suspected to have suffered from a severe mental disorder at the time of the crime, according to VK.
